dc.description Summary in English en
dc.description.abstract The general aim of the research was to explore the nature and the magnitude of the associations between work-related sense of coherence (independent variable) and fatigue experiences (outcome variable), taking into account the intervening effect of career well-being (mediating variable) and the moderating effect of socio-demographic characteristics (such as age, gender and race). The research further aimed to inform employee well-being support practices. A convenience sample of (N = 104; mean age = 42 years; SD: 11.99) employees in the service industry participated in the study. The sample was predominantly represented by women (74%) and people from the coloured (62%) race group. A cross-sectional quantitative research design was utilised. Mediation regression analysis indicated work-related sense of coherence as a significant negative predictor of fatigue experiences and a positive predictor of career well-being. However, the pathway from work-related sense of coherence via career well-being to fatigue experiences was not significant. Career well-being did not act as a significant predictor of fatigue experiences. Age, race and gender did not act as significant moderators. Female participants scored significantly higher than male participants on their fatigue experiences. Recommendations for employee well being practices and future research were outlined en
