The focus of this chapter is on exploring various research strategies (namely, survey, ethnographic and action research) in terms of issues of account ability in social research. In the course of the chap ter I spell out what I call (in Romm 2001) a tntst ing constructivist conception of accountability in social research. I define this position in relation to certain alternatives. The alternatives are discussed under the following categories: positivism, critical rationalism, scientific realism, interpretivism, criti cal theory and anti-foundationalist feminism. |
