Pages 78-141 describe Hoffmann's journey from Hamburg to Gutu in Mashonaland (Zimbabwe). Carl Hoffmann travelled together with Berlin missionary Ernst Friedrich Pauli. Hoffmann describes his feelings and observations about mission work and the local customs of the indigenous people in Southern Africa.
