dc.description.abstract This discussion reflects on the role of discourse and identity in industrialised distance delivery in South Africa. The nature and economies of such a production and delivery environment demand a strong accent on scalability that in turn affects 'human services' in the learning experience. The development and sustenance of such an educational scenario is partly dependent on the apparent 'willingness' of educators to 'submit' to non-engagement that is contra the basic calling of the profession. The author exposes the two different repetitive repertoires of discourse that contribute to this forced occupational identity. en
