The Kingdom of Nepal (hereinafter referred to as Nepal) is a developing country with very limited natural resources. This means that it has to rely on development aid from other countries. Its greatest assets are a large section of the Himalayas and an abundance of cultural and historical sites
within its borders. These assets, if properly managed, could form the foundation of a developing ecotourism industry which, together with foreign aid, could lead to increasing numbers of foreign visitors visiting the country, increased investments and job creation. A solid infrastructure, however, is important if Nepal wishes to attract foreign visitors to the country. In this article, the writer will look at the steps taken by the Nepalese authorities
to attract ecotourists to the country, the reasons why tourists visit the country and the future of ecotourism in Nepal. |
