dc.description.abstract |
South Africa has 11 official languages and the 12th one was gazetted recently. It would seem that almost all these languages, except English and Afrikaans, have been approved just for ceremonial purposes as they are still marginalised in the government, the education sector, the private sector and the economic sector. To make a contribution in addressing this issue, Inspired towards Science Engineering and Technology (I-SET), a Community Engagement flagship project of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET) at UNISA, in collaboration with the College of Human Sciences (CHS), particularly the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages and Department of African Languages, aims to inspire awareness and interest in the fields of science, engineering and technology through the use of robotics in our indigenous languages. This robotics project is developing a multilingual glossary of basic robotics terms to initiate the learning of robotics in indigenous languages. |
