dc.description.abstract The purpose of this chapter is to argue in support of the appropriateness of a case study approach to gaining a thorough understanding of the challenges in public administration. As the appropriateness of a using a case study approach is dependent on the nature of the phenomenon to be studied and the purpose of the study, this chapter first provides an overview of these antecedents as justification for the selection of the case study approach. Following the discussion on antecedents, the appropriateness of the case study approach is considered through an analysis of its defining attributes. en
