dc.description.abstract The Co-coordinating Committee on African Statistical Development (CASD) carried out a full independent evaluation of the achievements, failures, constraints and facilitating factors in meeting the objectives of the Addis Ababa Plan of Action for Statistical Development in Africa in the 1990's and the role of CASD in facilitating the implementation of the Plan. During country visits, the Consultants also collected viewpoints, proposals and directions on the expected role of statistics in a changing society and in which issues of democracy, good governance, respect of human rights, press freedom, decentralization of country administrations, country vision documents and poverty alleviation are the major concerns of the African countries.
