Title: Technology management of transportation properties : problems and prospects
Author: Brink, Basil; Pretorius, Jan-Harm; Pretorius, Leon
Abstract: A contemporary challenge is to view transportation property as a strategic asset that could be utilized for socio-economic development. The aim of the research is to explore the key contribution of technology to improve property management in transportation agencies. This may be achieved by following a systems approach that integrates property management technology with a property management transformation system. The research identifies problems encountered as well as prospects offered by property management technologies, such as Geographical Information Systems and financial management systems. Exploratory and case study research methods are used to assess the contribution of technology to property management in transportation agencies. Recommendations are made to improve the use of property management technologies in transportation agencies to increase socio-economic benefits.
