Abstract:
In 1986 an urban design Master Plan for the Germiston Station Precinct, as prepared by a multi-disciplinary team from SA Transport Services and the Germiston local authority, was approved. This article outlines the approval process and conveys the objectives of the Master Plan. The new inter-modal transport node and the Station Bazaar shopping centre, both of which were conceptualised and constructed in terms of the approved Master Plan, are presented. |

Description:
The article is based on an interview by the editor of 'Planning' with the architect and town planner Basil Brink, a member of the urban design team and the project architect for the new transport interchange buildings. |
