Esselenpark - the Railways University in the Veld

Abstract

Esselen Park is Transnet's (formerly the SA Railways and Harbours thereafter the SA Transport Services) relatively unknown 'university in the veld'. In this paper the planning and construction histories of Esselen Park are presented; present uses at this 'centre of excellence' are described and possible future developments are considered.
