dc.description.abstract 17zis paper addresses the challenging question of the rigour of the systems analysis process. First of all it discusses the nature of analysis, concluding that, contradictory to cu"ent opinion, it can best be described as an art. The processes of research and systems analysis are then mapped onto each other and the similarities are described. Some of the methods used by scientific researchers are then analyzed and a framework is proposed whereby the techniques and procedures for research can be integrated into the systems analysis process, thereby improving its overall rigour. en
