Abstract
This is a spiritual and character formation journey of more than 40 years of spiritual and faith learning and teaching by Jaco Coetzee (2019). This journey started with a search for meaningful leadership education (Coetzee 2019); and in a sense, my own personal knowledge and experiences of learning and teaching 40 years ago until today. Coetzee (2019) and I have met in the Southern Cape recently in a search for the answer to the following question: Why so many of the youth he taught developed into some of the most prominent leaders on all levels of the South African society? What did he do right; and How did he construct his teaching ministry? It is for this reason that I invite you to join this journey that informed and shaped the young perceptions, worldviews and positive action of young people 40 years ago. Another reason for this journey, is to offer options for Christian and or religious education in established churches and community-based organisations to deal with the difficult challenges which today’s young people are experiencing.
