Abstract

The analytical framework underpinning the presentation has four main aims, carefully aligned to the futuristic and envisioning symposium theme. Firstly, an attempt is made to situate the policy goals and intentions of the RSA quality regime from a strategic planning perspective, providing an accessible overview for the purposes of our deliberations. Secondly, a distillation of the relevant quality criteria for measuring LIS performance in a developing country context is interrogated. Thirdly, generic insights and lessons emerging from the Unisa experience of audits and programme reviews are shared as a critical contribution to future scenario planning and advancing quality in the sector. In conclusion, the identification of emerging challenges for facilitating role redefinition and repositioning the “library” in the global knowledge-based society offers a roadmap for the way forward.
