Abstract

Discipleship in the Fourth Gospel indicates a personal relationship between Jesus and his disciples. This relationship is modelled on the Father-Son relationship which is elucidated by the agency model. The descent-ascent schema forms the setting of this concept with the Johannine dualism as the determining factor for this schema. The agency motif constitutes the conceptual framework from which discipleship flows.
