In 2000, Member States of the United Nations committed to the attainment of a set of quantifiable Millennium Development (MDG) goals for redressing poverty and improving lives by the year 2015. While all of the eight MDG goals are impact on health, three are directly health-related goals, reducing child mortality by two thirds and maternal mortality by three-quarters of their 1990 values and halting and begin the reverse the spread of HIV and AIDS, malaria and other diseases. |
