The meeting of the Experts of the ECA Committee on Women and development (CWO) was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the United Nations Conference Center, from 5-7 November 2001. The meeting was
attended by ministers from the following countries members and non-members of the CWO: Angola,Burkina Faso, Cote D'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mozambique, Republic of Congo, South Africa, Uganda,Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Delegates representing the following countries members of CWD were also present: Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cote D'Ivoire, Cameroon, Comoros, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria,Swaziland, Sudan, Chad, Togo, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. Other countries represented included: Algeria,Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Gambia,Kenya, Liberia, Lesotho, Libya, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Madagascar, Niger, Namibia, Rwanda,South Africa, Senegal, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zambia. Some intergovernmental organisations (IGOs) were also represented, namely: East African Community (EAC), Intergovernmental Authority on development (IGAD), Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), and Organisation of African Unity (OAU).The following NGOs members of CWD were also present: Women and Law in Southern Africa Research
Trust (WLSA); Tanzania Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (TANGO); Mozambique National Association for Rural Development (ANRU); Institute Panafricain pour Ie Developpement (PAID);Cornite International des Femmes Africaines pour Ie Developpement (CIFAD); and Association des
Femmes Pag-La Yiri Zabre. Also present were the following UN agencies: UNIFEM, ILO,UNCTADIWTO, FAO, IFAD, DESAlOSCAC and UNDCP/ODCCP, UNEP, World Bank, UNAIDS,WFI', UNICEF, UNDP, UNCHS (Habitat), UNFPA, and 10M. Also represented were the African Commission on Human and People's Rights, the African Women's Development Fund, and the
Organisation Internationale de la francophonie. |
