dc.description.abstract | Economic Empowerment of Women in Africa took place in Johannesburg, South Africa from 4- 13 October 1999. It was organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa - African Centre for Women (ECA/ACW), hosted by the Office of the Presidency of the Republic of South Africa with co-ordination carried out by the Office of the Status of Women. The workshop theme was selected in direct response to member states expressed need for tools to measure qualitative and quantitative changes in the status of women in Africa. The workshop was undertaken as part of ECA ACW's regional training programme and under the ECA mandate of providing guidance and leadership in monitoring the implementation of commitments made at major regional and global conferences. The output of the workshop is seen as part of an on-going process of capacity building in the design of indicators for monitoring and implementation of the Dakar and Beijing Platforms for Action. | |
