dc.description.abstract The aim of this paper will be to offer a comparison of violent and non-violent types of resistance amongst Jews and early Christians to the early Roman Empire on the one hand, and similar forms of resistance to modern imperialism on the other. In addition, systemic alternatives of social justice offered in antiquity (by philosophers, Jews and early Christians) and modernity (by liberal and more radical, postcolonial thinkers) to imperial oppression will be compared and assessed. en
