Many issues of faith and healing are controversial in
modern faith teaching and practice, particularly in
relationship to what is commonly called the “word of faith”
movement. This article addresses several of these issues
such as: the relationship of healing to the atonement, the
will and sovereignty of God in relation to healing and
prayer, the roles of faith and positive and negative
attitudes or confessions in healing, the sources of
sicknesses and hindrances to healing, use of doctors and
medicine, the extent of healing that can be expected in this
life and claiming a long healthy life. Answers are provided
from a variety of evangelical leaders, particularly from
“classic” faith, healing, and holiness movements of the
nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Focus is put on
the dynamic tension and balance of the contra-polarities of
truth and practice, and sound interpretation and
application of Scripture. |
