dc.description.abstract This paper describes a software development environment currently being built at the University of Natal that provides a powerful and easy to use engineering tool for the design, simulation and implementation of high performance embedded controllers using parallel processing suitable for high speed motor control through to robotic applications. The development of a scalable controller platform based on the transputer is discussed in detail. This paper presents the functional specifications and discusses some of the software and hardware related issues/features to enable the system to achieve the required high performance, hard real-time operation. en
