Existing modelling frameworks for the design of interactive systems emphasise the relationship between the system's internal state and the rendering of this state at the user interface. Modern programming and multimedia design tools do, however, involve a critical area not covered by these models - they are used to create another interactive system which has its own internal state and its own user interface when executed. This paper proposes a framework that can be used to model these types of systems. The framework focuses on the relationship between the state of the development system and the state of the delivered product. Interactive authoring support environments aimed at the development of computer-based instructional software are used as case study example. |
