dc.description.abstract	In contrast to other countries, South Africa has sadly lacked a computer network for researchers. This paper starts with previous efforts to establish a national network for researchers and gives possible reasons for their failure. It then focuses on the present initiative of the Foundation for Research and Development. Various possible solutions for the proposed network are discussed and the recommended solution is given.
