dc.description.abstract	This communication gives an overview of the field of mobile agents as presented at various events held in conjunction with a recent international symposium in Germany. The nature of mobile agents and the key concepts involved are discussed in broad terms. Technical themes, such as migration, communication and security, are described in more detail, and a synopsis of an assessment presented by GMD FOKUS researchers of current mobile agent technologies is provided. The status quo on standardisation in this field concludes the communication.	en
