dc.description.abstract Any distractions in the working environment can affect the quality and quantity of output. For example, noise may disturb a person's thought processes and lead to errors. In addition, the programmer is subject to other, less tangible, distractions arising from the use of the software tools needed for the development process. This paper examines the latter type of disturbance and discusses ways to minimise its detrimental effect on a programmer's concentration. en
