dc.description.abstract This paper describes the development of a memory resident version of the Xinu operating system for the IBM PC range of computers. The operating system co-resides with the MS-DOS operating system. The need for the operating system is motivated in the context of real-time distributed system development. Important features of the Xinu operating system are discussed. The paper shows how these features are made available to programs developed under the widely used MS-DOS operating system. en
