The Integrated Data Base Management System (IDMS) originally had only a CO~C?L d~ta manipulation language (DML). Recently a
DML for FORTRAN on the 2900 series of ICL computers has been produced. This 1s a piece of software that has to be purchased as an
"optional extra" once the IDMS package has been obtained; this may dissuade potential FORTRAN users, particularly if FORTRAN is
only to be used infrequently. . .
This paper describes a simple method of using IDMS directly from a FOR~ program, withou~ th~ use of any DML. The method 1s
described for both the I CL 1904 and 2970 machines. In the description reference ts made to the application for which the method was first
developed, viz. a geological data base for Gold Fields of South Africa Limited. |
