Abstract

During the past 30 years the rapid evolution and distribution of information systems have brought about a change in the issues surrounding information systems projects. The technical, internal and external environment of the information worker has radically changed. In spite of improved development environments such as structured programming, structured design, data analysis, methods, fourth generation languages, compilers and data base management systems, projects are still delivered behind target dates and at higher than budgeted costs, and systems still do not conform to user requirements. By applying linear regression methods to empirical data gathered by means of questionnaires from a large organisation, this investigation attempts to identify the most critical factors for the successful completion of information system projects within that organisation.
