This article discusses the effectiveness of television satellite broadcasting to meet
the needs of individual students. The mixed-method approach – a combination of
qualitative and quantitative research methods – was used to evaluate experiences,
presentations and the management of television satellite broadcasting in distance
education. Data was collected through interviews with students who attended
television satellite broadcasts as well as from academics and officials responsible for
the delivery of television satellite broadcasting. The collected data was categorised into
the following general themes – management, presentation and support. The findings
indicated that there were deficiencies in the management of satellite broadcasting,
the manner and/or mode of presentation by lecturers, and the technological
support. These problem areas impacted hugely on the effectiveness of television
satellite broadcasting in distance education. In conclusion, it is recommended that
the management of satellite broadcasting, the manner and/or mode of presentations
by lecturers, and the technological support be improved to make television satellite
broadcasting more effective. |
