Gordon Dames calls on practical theology in South Africa to attain a new vision of the social whole in the light of the painful history of apartheid and recurring experiences of existential suffering. This situation becomes complicated with the absence of practical theological reflection on a multicultural theology of difference. David Bosch’s mission praxis is proposed to break this vacuum regarding multiculturality in theology. The construction of and process towards a multicultural identity is possible within the framework of a contemporary (PMC) missional model that encompasses Bosch’s praxis. South Africans need to create and enhance a new culture out of diversity. We are in need of a new interracial/multicultural community with an open transformative agenda. Transformation of the old and new forms of racial and monocultural power dynamics in society, faith based communities and the academy becomes crucial. The three publics in South Africa are required to live and learn to do difference differently. |
