dc.description.abstract The importance of achieving sustainable economic development through cooperation was recognized in Africa as of 1958 when the first conference of independent African states was held in Accra, Ghana. The multiplicity of economic cooperation organizations created since then in Africa shows the importance given to economic integration as part of a general strategy for encouraging sustained economic growth in Africa.
