Paradigm shift(s) in information behaviour

Abstract

To move forward in an important field such as information behaviour, it is important to reconsider what is happening in the field at regular intervals, to note changes in the research focus and research methods, and to reconsider how to reposition research efforts to make a contribution to the dire need for effective information retrieval systems, search skills and support in information seeking. The paper will reflect on changes in the research focus, as well as research participants and research methods. It will also reflect on changes in terminology and the need to bridge the gap between information behaviour and supporting fields such as information retrieval and collaborative information seeking.
