dc.description.abstract	On 21 October the Council on Higher Education held a Consultative Conference on Higher Education in South Africa. The Conference was held to mark the publication of the CHE’s HE Monitor No. 8 which bears the same title. The report published in October, is based on research undertaken by the CHE Advice and Monitoring Directorate. It presents a detailed statistical and policy analysis of South African Higher Education since 1997. It ends by examining policy options for South Africa and makes recommendations.	en
