dc.description.abstract It makes sense to commence this lecture with a quotation from a great Global Icon, Nelson Mandela former President of South Africa which inspired me over the years, and still continues to do so. “After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb” (Nelson Mandela 2013). The words of Nelson Mandela are common in the language of HIV/AIDS and LGBTIQ, and at the same time, they are not limited or exclusive to the sexuality and gender academe. These words remind me of a critical period in my clinical and academic work in the field of HIV/AIDS. en
